Integrated Horticultural Research Unit
The principal mission of this unit is to improve the performance of glasshouse horticulture by proposing innovative solutions in terms of prediction, know-how and advances in technology.
The principal programme of the unit is currently focused on studies of the glasshouse system, with the aim of developing new plant protection strategies and more environment-friendly cropping systems. This programme involves the promotion of alternative crop protection techniques, emphasising prevention and optimising the implementation and integration of alternative methods. The pursuit of these goals necessitates more fundamental research into the functioning of the main pathosystems studied (coupling of physical and epidemiological models) and the development of global control programmes. ![]() The breeding and diversification of ornamental species (Ranunculus, anemone, Protea ceae, peony) is the other main research axis in this unit. This work is carried out in close collaboration with professional horticulturists. Finally, the botanic garden of Villa Thuret, which is managed by the unit, offers an exceptional heritage of 2500 Mediterranean tree and shrub species. The botanical team maintains and updates the collections. It is also responsible for the scientific and technical valorisation of this heritage.
